June 30th, 2011 - Dostoevsky Day in St. Petersburg

The second annual Dostoevsky Day will be celebrated in St. Petersburg on July 2nd. A lot of activities are scheduled at the places featured in “Crime and Punishment,” “The Double,” “The Idiot” and Dostoevsky’s own life. Maps with significant places marked on them will be handed out near Sennaya Ploshchad and Vladimirskaya metro stations. Concerts and performances will also be organized at Pavlovsk. “Pavlovsk was the most democratic and fashionable suburb during Dostoevsky’s lifetime,” said Nikolai Tretyakov, director of the State Pavlovsk Reserve. “We want to recreate the atmosphere of the time described so well in ‘The Idiot’.”

January 30th, 2011 - FIFA World Cup-2018 in Russia

Today Russia was announced as host of FIFA World Cup in 2018. It is a really huge opportunity for Russia to show the whole world the hospitality and kindness of the country and the Russian people. FIFA President Sepp Blatter said he was certain the 2018 World Cup was in good hands and joined Russian officials in signing a formal declaration on January 26th in St. Petersburg that awards the soccer tournament to Russia. “Football is more than just kicking the ball,” he said at a news conference after the signing ceremony. “It is also important to connect different nations, and our philosophy this time was to give the World Cup to territories that had never hosted it.
