March 8th, 2006 – Women’s International Day. Where from?

The very first “women’s” event that happened on March 8th was not really a holiday. In 1857 on this nice spring day hundreds of New York factory female workers went out to show protest against bad labor conditions and low payments. Unfortunately the demonstration had no success, however it pushed the idea of professional unions - the first one was organized two years later on one of those factories. Such demonstrations used to take place quite often afterwards.
